Below are some examples of what HomeStep can do with your donation.
$35 will pay for one copy of the resources/life skills training notebook given to each client as they enter our program. Case managers use the book during weekly meetings to educate clients about resources, budgeting, parenting and goal setting.
$75 will pay for a rental of a moving van for a family that is "graduating" from our program and moving into an apartment of their very own.
$345 will pay for 6 months of HomeStep's yearly membership to Sharehouse, a free furniture bank supplying our families couches, beds, dressers, and other items to furnish their new homes.
$1,092 will provide a year of bus transportation to and from work for 7 single parents in our program. (Because HomeStep participates in the King County Metro reduced price bus tickets program, we purchase tickets for our families at 20% of the regular cost, receiving $5 worth of bus tickets for every $1 that we spend.)
$5,832 will subsidize a single parent and two or three children for a year in a 2-bedroom apartment in affordable housing northeast of Seattle. During their stay the parent will have time to upgrade their skills and find a livable wage job so they can afford to take over the full rent and have a permanent home.
