In 2001 over 3 million men, women, and children experienced homelessness.

The Homelessness Project is one solution to this vast problem.
  • Since our program started in 1989 we have served 311 familes and 957 individuals of which 627 were children.
  • 87% of our families move into permanent housing. The average stay in transitional housing is 14 months.
  • We credit our success to a low case manager to family ratio.  Our ratio is 1 to 11.

We are proud of our success but continue to strive to meet the growing needs of our community.

  • For each family served we turn 7 away.

Anyone can become homeless. Homeless people come from all faiths & beliefs, and all cultural, academic and employment backgrounds. People of color are disproportionately impacted by homelessness. Of the people served by THP in 2005:

  • 58% were African American
  • 12% were Caucasian
  • 10% were multiracial
  • 10% were Latino
  • 4% were Asian
  • 3% were Pacific Islander
  • 2% were Native American
  • 1% were Arab
  • 29% had language barriers and spoke limited or no English
  • 40% were homeless due to domestic violence and 51% had experienced domestic violence
  • They ranged in age from a newborn to 55.
