The
Homelessness
Project
Dear Applicant,
Thank you
for your interest in The Homelessness Project (THP). Though a program of the
Church Council of Greater Seattle, THP has no expectation of religious
affiliation or participation for staff or clients. We believe that there are
many reasons this is a wonderful place to work.
Let us highlight a few for you!
- THP
has provided transitional housing and case management for families without
homes for 16 years. It is a very successful program. We
consistently rank high in the city/county ratings for competitive federal McKinney
funding. 87% of the families who have left our program moved into
permanent homes or apartments of their own. This model works!
- Because
our project is highly successful it has solid financial backing.
Our 13-member Advisory Board is well connected, highly motivated and
passionate about supporting staff and clients. In 2004 they
actively helped raise $140,000 in individual donations. We also have
strong government partnerships. Nearly 40% of our $700,000 budget is
covered by city, county and federal grants which have been renewed even in
these difficult economic times. In-kind resources also abound. Seven
church partners currently donate the use of houses or apartments to THP
for use as transitional housing.
- THP staff all like working here. We are strong
professionals who are committed to our vocations and to social justice as
well. We are equally committed to having a life beyond our jobs.
This is critical because the work itself can be very stressful – we
often deal with families encountering incredible difficulties. In
order to adequately support them, we must feel supported. To this
end, we take care of ourselves. We are encouraged to take all of our
vacation days each year (22 days for full-time case managers). We are a very strong team; we like each other.
Dress is decidedly casually and we laugh a lot. Word at the
Church Council has it that THP is both effective and fun.
These are just a
few of the reasons that THP is a good place to work. We hope they pique
your interest! We look forward to receiving your application.
Sincerely,
Nancy Dorman
